Description:OverviewThe Charge Scenic Artist will define, plan, create, and execute the painting of all scenic elements. This role requires maintaining paint department communications, scheduling, budgeting, and collaboration within the Production department, the broader ATC organization, and external partners. The Charge Scenic Artist will supervise paint crew members and volunteers. Candidates from communities underrepresented in technical theatre are strongly encouraged to apply. Essential Functions Collaborate with Scenic Designers to research, define, and implement all scenic paint needs Research and create treatment/color samples Coordinate the build schedule with the Technical Director and Assistant Technical Director to complete finishing of scenery Coordinate schedule with the Properties Master to complete painting and finishing of prop elements as needed Complete all scenic paint work on time and within available resources Coordinate and supervise paint staff, over-hire artists, and volunteers Coordinate, supervise, and teach paint department interns Attend technical and dress rehearsals to take notes and finish paint activities Other duties as assigned Maintenance and Administrative Duties Maintain ATC tools, paint shop areas, and paint inventories Coordinate purchasing of paint materials and tools Maintain daily administrative needs in the paint department Maintain the basic Temple stage finishes and paint requirements Assist with other ATC special events or programs as assigned by the Production Manager Competencies Working knowledge of standard scenic art techniques including, but not limited to: paint mixing, sculpting, trompe l’oeil, drop painting, HVLP and airless sprayers Ability to interpret and execute provided samples and renderings Self-motivated, energetic, and an effective, efficient communicator Attentive to detail, accountable, and deadline-oriented Able to uphold a tone of collaboration, respect, optimism, and professionalism, while maintaining composure in a fast-paced setting Qualifications A college degree and/or equivalent professional experience required Minimum of 2 years of regional theatre management and artistry Minimum of 2 years in a supervisory capacity Eligibility to obtain a valid driver’s license Able to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds Comfortable working at heights (personnel lifts, ladders, scaffolding) Must be able to sit, stand, bend, and kneel for long periods Willingness to work long hours during tech week and occasional nights/weekends Short Phoenix residencies may be required based on production schedules
