Assistant Technical Director – Cape Playhouse, Dennis, MA
The historic Cape Playhouse in Dennis, MA — the oldest continuously operating summer theater in America — is accepting resumes for an Assistant Technical Director for our 2026 Summer Season, which includes:
Nat Zegree's Mozart to Pop Chart
Into the Woods
Hairspray
Mean Girls
The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
Various smaller events throughout the summer
Position Details:
Rate: $18–20/hour, commensurate with experience
Full-time position with opportunity for overtime after 40 hours/week
Contract Dates: May 4 – October 4, 2026 (some flexibility possible)
Housing may be provided
Reporting:
The Assistant Technical Director reports to the Technical Director and is responsible for assisting in all elements of scenic engineering, construction, load-ins, and strikes typical of a traditional summer theater. Duties include:
Aiding the Technical Director in drafting scenic elements
Costing sets and managing the shop
Assisting with construction, materials purchasing, welding (MIG), and rigging
Qualifications:
Proficiency in Vectorworks and/or AutoCAD required
Minimum 2 years professional shop experience
Strong construction skills and ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds
Ability to perform physical activities including lifting, bending, standing, and climbing
Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate as part of a team
