Description of the organization
The Toulouse Occitanie National Drama Centre – ThéâtredelaCité, one of the first CDNs in France to be accredited by the Ministry of Culture (1949), is one of the 38 National Drama Centres and is one of the two National Drama Centres in the Occitanie Region. It is located in the hyper-centre of Toulouse Métropole (37 municipalities, 800,000 inhabitants) in premises of 11,000 m2 inaugurated in 1998 and made available by Toulouse Métropole.
These premises offer a tool adapted to all forms of shows with 3 rooms: one of 884 seats with a 30m opening stage, a modular room of 250 seats and a studio of 70 seats, as well as 2 rehearsal rooms to which are added 8 apartments, catering and circulation spaces (hall that can accommodate 550 people, mezzanine that can accommodate up to 300), and buildings for storage and construction of sets.
With an annual budget of approximately €7 million and a team currently composed of 41 permanent staff and 68 full-time equivalents including artistic and technical intermittents (2024 data), the CDN Toulouse Occitanie also hosts AtelierCité, a troupe of 8 young actors and actresses engaged on a professionalization contract as part of a 15-month professional integration scheme.

The fundamental public interest missions of a CDN are the creation and distribution of theatre. It is a place of regional, national and international reference, where all dimensions of theatre can meet and be articulated, in the diversity and topicality of its aesthetics: research, writing, creation, distribution and transmission.
All the public interest missions attached to the CDN are defined by the specifications of missions and requirements of the CDN label set by the decree of May 5, 2017 (published in the Official Journal of the French Republic No. 0110 of May 11, 2017) and accessible on the website www.legifrance.gouv.fr.

FOR AN ARTIST
to direct the ThéâtredelaCité, starting January 1, 2026.
As part of this call for applications, applications from one or more artists involved in the theatrical field are admissible.
Candidates will send a cover letter, a curriculum vitae and a presentation of their artistic career as well as a quantitative assessment of the distribution of their production over the last three years electronically (in .pdf format) no later than Friday, September 19, 2025 (midnight) to:

A maximum of six candidates will be preselected according to a principle of gender parity, after consultation between the State (General Directorate of Artistic Creation and Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs Occitanie), Toulouse Metropolis and the Occitanie Region.
The preselected individuals will have to develop an artistic and cultural project based on the orientation note that will be provided to them, presenting in particular the ThéâtredelaCité, the theatrical and artistic context of the region, the specifications of the National Drama Centers, the Structuring Operators system of the Occitanie Region and all the elements useful for its drafting.
The preselected individuals will present their artistic project to a committee composed of representatives of the various partners.
At the end of the selection procedure, the application selected by the jury must receive the approval of the Minister of Culture for a planned start date of January 1, 2026 for an initial four-year term.
