The world-famous klezmer band Dobranotch from St. Petersburg, known for its spectacular performances of traditional Eastern European Jewish music, has fused with acrobat Eliana Pliskin Jacobs and clown Sam Gurwitt to produce a klezmer circus! With stories of wandering and migration, acrobatics and aerials, clowning and mime, flying instruments, and of course, live klezmer music that will have you up from your seat and dancing, the show celebrates resilience in the face of oppression. While drawing on traditions of Yiddish theatre and humour, the performance delves into more serious themes of Jewish history in Europe and the present-day exile of some of the performers. As with many Jewish traditions, joy is always balanced with sorrow, just as klezmer music smoothly juxtaposes major and minor.
