I began my professional career at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, where I completed a Technical Theatre apprenticeship with a focus on Stage and Automation. During my apprenticeship, I undertook a secondment and continued freelance work with TAIT/Stage Technologies. Upon completion, I transitioned into a career as a touring technician, initially as a Swing Technician for a weekly UK touring musical. Since then, I have worked exclusively on international tours across Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Australia, advancing through roles ranging from Swing Technician to Deputy Master Carpenter and Head of Automation.
Key areas of expertise include:
- Extensive experience across nightliner, arena, and weekly touring productions, as well as high-profile No.1 musical tours.
- Leadership roles as Head and Deputy Head of departments, managing both teams and technical operations.
- Oversight of load-in and load-out coordination, as well as managing and training local crews, working in different languages and through the use of translators.
- Ensuring the safe and efficient maintenance and repair of integrated automated set pieces.
- Proactive, solution-oriented approach to troubleshooting and resolving complex automation issues in fast-paced environments.
This broad range of experience has equipped me with a deep understanding of technical theatre, touring logistics, and the integration of automation in live performance settings.
