Video Artist & Projection Designer
Barret Hodgson is a UK-based video artist and projection designer, and founder of Vent Media, an award-winning digital media production company specialising in immersive visual experiences for live performance, installation, and large-scale architectural projection.
Working at the intersection of creative concept and technical delivery, Barret has over two decades of experience designing and delivering video content across theatre, dance, music, and public realm projects. His work ranges from intimate, responsive installations to complex multi-projector environments and large-format projection mapping.
Barret’s practice has a strong emphasis on real-time and generative content creation, particularly using Notch, alongside a deep understanding of media server workflows including Disguise and Pixera. This combination allows him to develop visually rich, technically robust solutions that respond to both narrative and environment.
He has collaborated with a wide range of artists, companies, and organisations including BBC, 59 Productions, Sadler’s Wells, DreamThinkSpeak, Warp Films, Red Bull, and Glastonbury Festival, where he has overseen content and playback for the Temple Stage. His work often involves integrating video seamlessly into performance, creating environments where projection becomes an active, spatial element rather than a surface layer.
Alongside content creation, Barret brings extensive experience in system design, mapping, and show integration, regularly working across multidisciplinary teams to realise complex productions from concept through to delivery.
