Description:This is an opportunity to be part of shaping a renowned arts charity as an advisory board member for Performers Without Borders.A Treasurer Trustee for an arts charity holds a specialised, strategic role that combines general trustee responsibilities with specific oversight of the charity’s financial health, compliance, and sustainability. The treasurer acts as the board's lead on financial matters, ensuring that funds are managed responsibly to support the creative, charitable objectives. The position is voluntary, and participation and presence are required only online, three times a year for quarterly meetings with members of the board and the charity managers and once a year for the AGM (annual general meeting). Feedback on the yearly accounting and submission is required each year during February/March before the AGM. Requirements:RequiredA current/up-to-date understanding of financial systems and use of the technologies that are available. Experience in understanding charity bookkeeping, accounting and taxes. Understanding of arts-based accounting. Experience working in Google Sheets/Excel. Desired Previous experience on a charity board of trustees. Previous experience accessing different online fundraising systems. E.g., Buy Me a Coffee, Twitch, Enthuse, GoFundMe Background in business or marketing strategies. Knowledge of international banking systems. E.g., travel money, Wise, etc. Experience in ethical banking. Personal link to circus and performing arts. Experience working across currencies. Prepare To Present:Available to reading and sign our trustee documentations.Available 28th February or 1st March to join our yearly AGM (online) and meet the team and be officially appointed for the year. Additional Information:Key responsibilities include:1. Financial Oversight and Governance Strategic Planning: Advising the Board on the financial implications of strategic plans and ensuring the financial resources meet present and future needs. Budgeting and Monitoring: Reviewing and approving annual budgets, management accounts, and financial reports before presenting them to the Board. Financial Policies: Leading the development and implementation of financial policies. Controls and Risk Management: Ensuring robust internal financial controls are in place to prevent fraud and minimise financial risk. Record Keeping: Ensuring proper accounting records are maintained. 2. Regulatory Compliance Annual Accounts: Overseeing the preparation and, where required, auditing of annual accounts in accordance with the Charity Commission and Charities SORP (Statement of Recommended Practice). Statutory Filings: Ensuring compliance with HMRC (including Gift Aid), Companies House, and other relevant regulatory bodies. Asset Management: Protecting and managing the property and assets of the charity. 3. Board Leadership and Advice Reporting: Presenting financial reports to the Board in a clear, concise manner. Advising: Providing financial guidance and constructive challenge to the Artistic Director, General Manager and fellow trustees. 4. Arts-Specific Context Fundraising Support: Contributing to the fundraising strategy, often necessary for arts organisations dependent on grants and donations. Project Appraisal: Evaluating the financial viability of artistic projects or workshops. 5. General Trustee Duties Collective Responsibility: As a trustee, ensuring the charity acts in accordance with its governing document and for public benefit. Advocacy: Acting as an ambassador for the arts charity in the community.
