Description:

The Emery/Weiner School seeks a dynamic, innovative, and collegial Theatre/Dance Teacher to join our collaborative faculty. Responsibilities include teaching sections of Middle School Theatre, Middle & Upper School Dance, and Directing/Choreographing two Middle School productions per year. Position may also participate in advisory, student life, and chaperoning duties according to the experience of the candidate and needs of the school. A strong candidate will be an experienced arts professional with a background in teaching and/or working with young people, and a desire to teach in a progressive, student-centered independent school that values innovative pedagogy and experiential education. An outstanding candidate should be able to demonstrate a track record of innovation, flexibility, collegiality, and student success.



This position requires a professional who:



· Is passionate about teaching Theatre Arts and Dance at both the Middle and Upper School levels, and fostering creativity and a love for the arts in all students.

· Is comfortable collaboratively leading a creative team in mounting high quality theatrical productions.

· Is passionate about building new artistic opportunities and growing existing programs.

· Thrives on a collaborative team which works closely throughout the year to create and facilitate artistic experiences, both in the department and the school community at large.

· Has strong rapport with young people; is able to engage with students in ways that are affirming and encouraging, and encourage participation and growth in extra-curricular programs

· Exhibits a growth mindset and continually seeks to improve the way she or he operates.

· Embraces classroom technology integration as a tool for learning.

· Continues to explore their own artistic practice.





Responsibilities Include:

· Teaching a full curricular load of Theatre Arts and Dance classes,

· Assessing students’ artistic, academic, and social development,

· Providing consistent oral and written communication to students and families,

· Collaboratively creating and communicating rehearsal and production scheduling for extra-curricular Middle School Theatre program,

· Overseeing a wide range of production elements, and working with a dedicated production team to mount two shows per year,

· Serving as advisor to a small cohort of students,

· Collaborative work on grade-level, department, and interdisciplinary faculty teams,

· Extended after-school, evening, and weekend hours facilitating and conducting rehearsals



Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre/Dance, Arts Education, or related field
Comfort with innovative and forward-thinking approaches to instruction
Previous experience directing and choreographing
Experience in professional theatre settings
A strong a commitment to professional growth
Preferred Qualifications:

Advanced degree in Theatre/Dance, Arts Education, or related field
Experience teaching in independent schools
