Technical Theater Director

Full-time opening

Northfield Mount Hermon, a private co-educational boarding school in western Massachusetts, seeks an energetic individual to teach technical theater and design, and to collaborate with students and fellow teaching artists on producing a full season of dance, music, and theater events. This position begins with the fall semester of the 2026-2027 academic year.

Northfield Mount Hermon has a state-of-the-art facility that includes a 220-seat End-Stage theater, a 90-seat studio theater, a 250-seat concert hall, and large scene and costume shops. The Technical Director is responsible for the scenic and lighting design of all productions, the fabrication and installation of those designs, and the provision of expertise and support in technology for all performing arts spaces.

The successful applicant will have a bachelor’s degree or higher in theater or related discipline, with notable experience as a scenic artist, including dance performance. Experience as a theater teacher at a secondary level is preferred. Experience with performance streaming is a plus.

Candidates must be familiar with boarding school life and have an interest in making a positive impact on the lives of adolescents. They will demonstrate experience in equity and inclusion work that promotes a diverse community environment and a clear understanding of anti-bias education.

Classroom teaching responsibilities include: scenic design, lighting design, and set construction. Other responsibilities include student advising, resident dormitory supervision, and co-curriculars or equivalents. Candidates are encouraged to include in their application experiences that may support our athletic and student life programs.

We reasonably expect to compensate for this position between $48,163 and $57,049, based on years of experience. Final compensation may vary depending on workload and relevant experience.
