the american vicarious — a Brooklyn-based company whose recent work in London includes Debate: Baldwin vs. Buckley (Stone Nest 2023) and Fight for America! (2025) — is seeking a Technical Director for its upcoming London production, Our American Queen.

Job Description

Position: Technical Director - Our American Queen

Company: the american vicarious

Location: London (Bridewell Theatre)

Contract: Fixed Term (Pre-Production, Load-In, Tech, Run, and Strike)

Compensation: $601/week (ITC/Equity scale)

Working Hours: 30 hours/week

Compensation: Fee commensurate with ITC/Equity scale

Dates: Pre-Production December 2025 - Load-Out 8 February 2026

Schedule

Pre-Production: December 2025 (advance planning, vendor coordination, and design integration)

Load-In / Tech: 4 - 10 January 2026

Previews: 12 - 15 January 2026

Opening: 16 January 2026

Load-Out: 8 February 2026

Job Requirements
Experience:

Strong working knowledge of lighting, sound, rigging, and scenic systems.

Experience managing small-to-mid-scale venue load-ins and strikes.

Familiarity with ITC/Equity working practices, London theatre operations, and venue compliance.

Strong communication, budgeting, and scheduling skills.

Ability to collaborate with international design teams and local crew.

Job Responsibilities
Oversee all technical aspects of the production, including lighting, sound, and scenic installation.

Supervise the load-in, technical rehearsals, and strike.

Coordinate between U.S. designers and London-based production departments.

Manage vendor relationships, equipment rentals, and venue resources.

Ensure all work complies with health and safety standards.

Troubleshoot technical issues throughout the rehearsal and performance period.
