Description of the organism
The Comédie de Caen is a worker cooperative (SCOP) founded in 1969 and designated a National Drama Center in 1972. Its team comprises around thirty permanent staff members and it operates from three venues: the Hérouville Saint Clair theater (700 seats and 120 seats), the Théâtre des Cordes in Caen (300 seats), and a 1000m² storage facility. The technical team consists of a technical director, two production managers, a senior sound and video manager, a senior venue and site manager, an electrician, a dresser/seamstress, and two maintenance staff – as well as temporary employees. Integrated within the technical department, the construction workshops include a production manager in charge of the workshops, a set painter, and three stagehands/builders, as well as temporary employees.
Job Description
Main Responsibilities:
- Is responsible for the preparation, organization, and execution of the Comédie de Caen's activities (creations, performances, hosting, and all other activities related to the Comédie de Caen's project or the maintenance of its buildings and equipment) for the stage area.
- Is responsible for the installation and proper functioning of stage equipment and may be required to coordinate and monitor preventive, corrective, and remedial maintenance of the equipment.
- Ensures compliance with safety laws and regulations.
Job Description:
Under the responsibility of the technical director and the general management team, and in collaboration with other management teams:
- He/She is responsible for:
o Preparing and organizing the technical and logistical resources necessary for the production and operation of shows, events, and performances, within the framework of the organization's artistic and cultural projects.
o Developing and adapting the stage equipment layout plan.
• Carry out and direct the setup, adjustments, and dismantling of equipment and materials.
• Design and create technical effects that meet artistic requirements.
• Provide technical direction and management during shows, events, and performances.
• Contribute to ensuring a welcoming and comfortable audience experience.
• Supervise staff under their responsibility.
• Ensure optimal working and reception conditions for technical teams.
• Organize and participate in the storage, rotation, and organization of equipment, sets, and materials related to the activities of the Comédie de Caen.
• Track inventories, research, and requests for quotes
. • Manage and participate in the routine maintenance of stage equipment and materials.
• Stay informed about technological advancements in stage equipment and materials.
• Implement hygiene, safety, and risk prevention regulations applicable to professionals and the public.
Description of the desired profile
- Stagecraft training and/or at least 3 years of experience in a similar role.
- Experience with theatre rigging.
- Mandatory rigging and lifting training.
- Knowledge of fire safety and worker safety regulations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365.
- Experience in team management and strong organizational skills.
- Strong interest in live performance.
- Adaptability and proactive approach to artistic requests.
- Ability to listen, reflect, and make decisions regarding the supervised team and in relationships with other departments.
- Ideally, advanced knowledge of computer-aided design software such as AutoCAD and ZwCAD.
- Availability (travel may be required) in the evenings and possibly on weekends.
- Driving licence (category B).
- SSIAP1 qualification preferred.
