Producers: The Birmingham Rep & Melting Pot

Location: The Birmingham Rep and Manchester Opera House

Contract Dates: Week Commencing Monday 26 January - Sunday 22 March 2026 (commencing in week four of rehearsals, concluding after the Manchester get-out)

Reports to: The Birmingham Rep Producing Team, Melting Pot General Management Team and the Sound Designer

Fee: £900 per week + Touring Allowance and travel in accordance with the UK Theatre/Equity Agreement

Production Details:

London, 1995. Two of the country's biggest bands release singles on the same day, commencing the battle of Britpop. From the chaos of the Brit Awards to the infamous chart war, The Battle is a wickedly funny dive into one of the greatest rivalries in rock history. Featuring legendary personalities and unforgettable clashes, it was never just about the music, but power, pride, and uncontrollable competitiveness. Expect filthy language and razor-sharp dialogue in this cut-throat new comedy that puts you right at the heart of the feuding, the fame, and the fallout.

Purpose of the Role

The Sound No. 1 (Head of Sound) is responsible for the operation and maintenance of all sound equipment throughout rehearsals and performances, ensuring the department runs smoothly and the production maintains the highest technical standard.

Job Requirements
Proven experience as a Head of Sound / Sound No. 1 on a comparable-scale production.
Demonstrable experience of live line-by-line mixing on large-scale productions
Experience of touring desirable but not essential.
Excellent organisational and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Calm, flexible approach and ability to deliver consistently high standards under pressure.

Someone who is ready to undertake any other reasonable duties as requested by the Producers or Company Stage Manager.
Job Responsibilities
Operate all sound equipment as instructed by the Sound Designer.
Prepare and maintain accurate cue lists and sheets.
Compile and submit a complete Sound Bible at the end of the contract.
Supervise and support additional sound department members as required.
Ensure all equipment is maintained, tested and safe to use.
Conduct equipment and line checks before each performance.
Manage petty cash requests via the Company Stage Manager and keep accurate records.
Complete and submit accurate timesheets for the sound team
Attend production meetings, rehearsals, calls and performances as required.
Be present for get-ins, fit-ups, technical and dress rehearsals, and get-outs.
Liaise with hire companies and suppliers regarding equipment maintenance or replacement.
Work collaboratively with the Company Stage Manager and Heads of Department on move reports for Manchester.
Liaise with local venue teams on technical requirements, maintenance and scheduling
