Sound Designer for a site-specific, all-female/non-binary version of Shakespeare's Henry V performed at the Temple Church, Bristol from 19th June - 2nd Aug 2025.

The production is supported with Arts Council England funding and partnering with English Heritage and the Temple & Redcliffe BID.

Fee: The total fee for this project will be £2275. This covers 13 days at a daily rate of £175.


Important dates (please note the Sound Designer will not be present for the entirety of these dates and this can be discussed with the Executive Producer)

Rehearsals in Bristol 27th May - 13th June
Production Week w/c 16th June (possible fit up of elements of LX on 14th June)
Previews 19th & 20th June
Opening night 21st June
Get out 4th - 5th August

Job Requirements

Who we are looking for

Proven professional experience in sound design or a similar role within the theatre or performing arts industry.
Ideally, experience working in site specific, outdoor productions or similar events.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams.
A passion for theatre and a deep understanding of production processes and best practices.
Ideally local to the Bristol area or with a base in or nearby
Whilst we are open to applicants of all genders, it is our aim to have as many female and non-binary people on board for this project, so are particularly keen to hear from applicants that identify as such.
Job Responsibilities
Roles and responsibilities of the Sound Designer

To develop and explore the role of sound in the production of Henry V at Temple Church, Bristol
To work closely with the Composer/Musical Director to understand their vision and how the music will integrate with the sound design
To compose an original sound score as necessary for the space and the script
To advise on the the most appropriate technical equipment for the show
To support the technical installation of the sound equipment during production week (14th June - 19th June) in collaboration with the production manager and stage management team
To attend all confirmed rehearsal and production meetings for Henry V called to by the Director during April - June
To be available for agreed upon times on site during the get out of 4th & 5th Aug, if requested
To be on standby (via phone) throughout the show run (21st June - 2nd August) to offer advice on any technical aspects of the sound setup or in regards to any issues
