Description:OSITION: Scenic ArtistPOSITION TYPE: Fulltime; Exempt DEPARTMENT: Production REPORTS TO: Technical Director SALARY:The salary is $46,600 per annum. Olney Theatre Center is seeking a Scenic Artist to join the Production team. Olney Theatre Center for the Arts produces and curates theatrical performances for the diverse audiences in our community and educates, learns from, supports, and inspires a more inclusive generation of theater-makers. The successful candidate will join a growing regional theatre that emphasizes artistic rigor, prioritizes equity, diversity, and inclusion, and places collaboration at the center of our work. POSITION SUMMARY: The Scenic Artist ensures that Olney Theatre Center’s scenery and large-scale set pieces are rendered to the Set Designers’ specifications within the Technical Director’s production schedule. They also play a major role in assessing the cost and viability of scenic designs within the allotted budget and Production calendar. Core functional areas and responsibilities include: Perform as lead scenic painter on all Olney Theatre Center produced productions Serve as an artistic contact with all Scenic Designers throughout the season Identify, hire, and supervise all hourly paint staff Assess and advise the Technical Director on paint and other scenic considerations (ie. wallpaper, textures, or other unforeseen techniques) within the production/build schedule Assess and advise the Technical Director on materials and other considerations for individual show projects Maintain and organize all scenic paint equipment and inventory, as well as maintain paint workspaces Attend Production meetings as required Execute all notes received up and through the preview process Provide touch-up kit and maintenance instructions for Stage Management and Stage Operations Manager Maintain the painted design of all shows as necessary, if beyond the skill of the show’s run crew Minimum Job Requirements: Education: Bachelor’s Degree; Master’s Degree preferred. However, an equivalent level of skill combined with professional experience can be substituted for the degree requirement. Experience: 5 to 7 years of scenic painting experience, with at least 3 years as lead painter in a professional or educational theatre setting Physical Requirements: This position requires some lifting, climbing stairs and ladders, and operating light equipment Time Requirements: Full-Time position, with evening and weekend work requirements. For the upcoming season, the position will primarily be a nighttime position. Investment in OTC's SALARY AND START DATE The anticipated start date is August 1, 2024. The salary is $46,600 per annum*.
