Description:

We are looking for a performer for our production of The Princess and the Pea at the Southbank Centre in London from Jan-Feb 2026.
Upswing is a leading UK circus company that aims to tell new stories in extraordinary ways. We are a small but mighty organisation that creates and tours new and original circus productions as well as bringing memorable, unexpected experiences directly to audiences in their outdoor and public spaces.

ABOUT THE SHOW
– The Princess & the Pea is a small (4 person) ensemble, circus theatre piece for children.
– The story is non-verbal, told through action not words.
– Running time 45-50 minutes

The show premiered last year at London’s Unicorn Theatre before a successful run on Broadway, New York and will be underpinning the Southbank Centre’s acclaimed Imagine Children’s Festival in their Queen Elizabeth Hall in February. International touring is being explored for 2027.


ENGAGEMENT DATES:

Rehearsal week 1: 26-30th January  
Rehearsal week 2: 2nd-6th February
Tech/get-in week: 10-13th February
Performance week: 14-20th February

Venue: Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank Centre

Fee: Weekly rate of £650 plus holiday pay plus travel/subsistence rate if based outside London

Requirements:

ABOUT THE ROLE:

We are casting for a performer to play ‘Blue servant’: a very physical role for an artist who likes throwing themselves around with a good level of acrobatic skills.

They need to be playful, engaging and skilled at physical comedy. The show specifically uses a vocabulary of trio acrobatics/toss the flyer vocabulary and some trampette work which would be adapted to suit the incoming performer. You will also be lifting and stacking small mattresses.

Must be a team player with a positive collaborative attitude. Trust in one’s fellow cast members will be important.
