Description:

A globally recognized institution in New York City is seeking skilled movement artists for a significant revival of Simone Forti’s seminal Dance Constructions (1960-61). These works are scheduled for exhibition in February 2027. Acquired by the institution in 2015, these groundbreaking pieces are rooted in everyday motion, serendipity, and minimalist props such as rope and plywood. First presented in 1960, this suite of nine works explores the dynamics of human interaction, often requiring performers to engage in cooperative or collaborative task-based sequences, bridging the gap between sculptural form and the moving body—a concept that foreshadowed many tenets of Minimalist sculpture. Candidates with a background in movement and performance are strongly encouraged to apply. The role requires demonstrated strength, agility, acute spatial awareness, and the capacity for sustained, repetitive physical execution. The work also incorporates elements of improvisational scoring. Qualified performers must be comfortable with close physical contact, including weight sharing and bearing; possess the ability to lift a minimum of 20 lbs; and be proficient in both singing and whistling. **Schedule:**
Anticipated onsite rehearsal and performance dates are as follows:
* **Rehearsals:** Six to eight days, including orientation, tech, and dress rehearsals, will take place between January 19 and February 3, 2027.
