GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB FUNCTION:
A key position of the Virginia Stage Company, the Lighting and Sound Supervisor is primarily responsible for the execution of budgeting, engineering, and implementation of lighting, projections, and sound designs for each of Virginia Stage Company+rsquo;s productions and special events. Maintenance, repair, and organization of the lighting and sound equipment for both VSC productions and venue rentals are another key responsibility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Management and Scheduling:
● Coordinate/Collaborate with designers and directors to implement their vision in a safe, timely, and
budget friendly manner.
● Coordinate with the Production Manager and Technical Director to assure that each production is
installed on time and within budget.
● Attend design and production meetings, technical rehearsals, and any other event as required by the
Production Manager
● Coordinate with the Technical Director for assistance on rigging and/or structure needs while
implementing the lighting, sound, and/or video plans set forth by the designers.
● Work with each production department supervisor to ensure a timely load-in of each production and/or event.
● Manage inventory and maintenance of all stock lighting, projection and sound equipment and systems.
● Oversee all lighting personnel for hang, focus, strike, and running of shows; including scheduling and
training as needed on industry protocols and equipment.
● Oversee the implementation of projection + sound equipment for both shows and special events in the
Wells Theatre including testing, maintaining, renting, and usage of projectors, speakers/monitors, microphones, etc.
Safety and Cleanliness:
● Oversee and manage routine inspection and maintenance of all lighting and sound equipment and
systems/software.
● Maintains a clean and safe workspace for all personnel.
● Maintains organization of the Wells Theatre lighting and sound storage areas
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Skills and Abilities
● Knowledge of current standard theatrical lighting practices in hanging, circuiting, and troubleshooting
conventional and LED lighting fixtures.
● Proficiency with Lightwright
● Proficiency with a CAD program such as Vectorworks.
● Proficiency in programming with the ETC EOS family of consoles.
● Experience with building and wiring practicals and low voltage effects.
● Experience and comfort working at heights up to 60+ feet. (Grid deck is 62+rsquo; above stage floor)
● Ability to read and interpret lighting and sound plots and accompanying paperwork.
● Ability to collaborate with designers and directors, while communicating expectations and progress
promptly and accurately.
● Must be able to manage and coordinate multiple projects and tasks, maintain organization, and be detail
oriented.
● Proficiency in programming and operation of QLab software
● Proficiency using both MacOS and Windows Operating Systems
● Experience with Dante Networking software, Yamaha Digital Consoles, and ClearCom Communication
systems a must
● Working knowledge of other digital and analog audio consoles, equalizers, amplifiers, microphones,
speakers, monitors, in-ear monitoring systems, projectors and video projection systems, cabling, wiring,
and audio/video recording and editing.
● Ability to read and interpret paperwork; including sound plot, signal flow, processing, cueing notes and
cue sheets to document productions.
● Working knowledge of digital and analog audio consoles, equalizers, amplifiers, microphones, speakers,
monitor, in-ear monitoring, projectors and video projection systems, cabling, wiring, and audio/video recording and editing.
Education and Experience
● Minimum Bachelor+rsquo;s Degree in related field or equivalent experience
● Minimum 2 years experience in a supervisory role
● While not required, experience with ETC Foundation Rigging Control and Unison Paradigm software and
controls is a plus.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
● Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral
vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
● Must be able to lift 50+ pounds unaided and in repetition.
● Frequent standing, walking, bending, frequent use of hands, stooping, and heavy lifting may also be
required.
● Vertical ladders and safety harness required for working in the grid
● 40 expected work hours per week, with hours expected to increase closer to the opening of a show.
● Night + weekend calls expected for Load-Ins, Strikes, Tech and show needs as needed
COMPENSATION:
Weekly salary for this position is $700-750. Employment also includes paid time off, medical coverage with modest employee share, parking, and other benefits.
