The Naples Players (TNP), one of the nation's leading community-based theatres, is seeking a skilled and motivated Lead Carpenter to join our award-winning production team. Following a $22M renovation of our state-of-the-art facility in downtown Naples, TNP is expanding its technical and production staff to support an ambitious season of musicals, plays, and educational programming.
Position Summary
The Lead Carpenter is responsible for overseeing the construction, installation, and maintenance of scenic elements for all TNP productions. This position ensures that scenic builds are executed safely, efficiently, and to the highest artistic standards. The Lead Carpenter will supervise build crews, volunteers, and overhire staff while collaborating closely with the Technical Director, Scenic Designers, and Production Department.
Key Responsibilities
Scenic Construction + Installation
Build, install, and strike scenery for all productions.
Read and interpret scenic construction drawings and translate them into accurate builds.
Maintain a safe, organized, and well-equipped scene shop.
Leadership + Supervision
Lead build crews including staff, volunteers, and overhire carpenters.
Train volunteers and apprentices in safe and efficient carpentry practices.
Ensure work is completed on time and within budget.
Collaboration
Work closely with the Technical Director and Scenic Designers to bring designs to life.
Communicate clearly with fellow production staff across lighting, sound, props, and costumes.
Problem-solve creatively when modifications or adjustments are needed.
Facility + Equipment Maintenance
Maintain scenic shop tools, machinery, and equipment.
Track inventory of scenic supplies and request purchases as needed.
Assist in maintaining stage systems, rigging, and backstage areas.
Qualifications
Proven experience in theatrical carpentry, with at least 3+ndash;5 years of scenic construction in a professional or academic setting.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage staff, volunteers, and crews.
Proficiency with woodworking tools, metalworking/welding, rigging, and scenic automation.
Ability to read and execute technical drawings.
Commitment to safety, efficiency, and collaborative teamwork.
Physical ability to lift at least 50 lbs. and work at heights (ladders, lifts, grids).
Experience with scenic painting is a plus.
Compensation + Benefits
Competitive annual wage - base salary starting at $45,000 - adjustable based on experience.
