An open call invites performing artists to participate in a 2.5-day intensive research laboratory, scheduled from August 28th to August 30th, 2026, in Luxembourg. This unique gathering, co-facilitated by a renowned choreographer and a dramaturg, in partnership with an arts production platform and with the generous support of a cultural center, will delve into the profound theme of 'Intimacy and Proximity' – exploring the intricate connections between artwork, performer, and audience. This research initiative provides a collaborative environment for deep experimentation, critical dialogue, and shared reflection. A select cohort of artists will collectively explore how intimacy is cultivated, navigated, or challenged within live performance settings, and how various forms of proximity—be it physical, emotional, or conceptual—shape the audience's engagement with the work. Each invited participant will lead a 1.5 to 2-hour session, offering insights into their personal artistic methodologies and examining the role that intimacy and proximity play within their creative practice. These sessions can manifest in diverse formats, including practical workshops, insightful lecture-demonstrations, facilitated discussions, collaborative exercises, or innovative performative proposals, tailored to the individual's approach. The organizers are particularly keen on exploring questions such as: What forms of intimacy emerge in performative contexts? How can an intimate atmosphere be fostered between performer and audience? What significance do vulnerability and presence hold? How can genuine connection be established without overexposure? Where do we draw the line between closeness and discomfort? How are boundaries negotiated in live art? And is intimacy always contingent on scale and physical closeness? The lab spans 2.5 days, from August 28th to August 30th, 2026. Participants should plan to arrive early on August 28th (or potentially August 27th, depending on travel within Europe) and depart on the afternoon of August 30th. The activities will take place in Luxembourg at the Centre Culturel de Rencontre Abbaye de Neumünster. Three artists will be selected: one based in Luxembourg and two from other European countries. The working formats include four dedicated slots for participant-led sessions, moderated group discussions, and informal interactions such as 'walk & talks,' shared meals, and social gatherings. A special Sunday breakfast will also be hosted, opening the lab to a wider community of local artists. They are seeking three performing artists (from disciplines such as dance, performance art, theatre, or interdisciplinary practices) who possess a strong interest in process-oriented research and collaborative exchange. Conditions for Participation:
A fee of 720€ will be provided, covering the facilitation of your session, full participation in the 2.5-day Research LAB, and the submission of a written reflection on your experience within one week post-lab.
A Per Diem of 35€ per day will be allocated for three days.
