The role…

We are currently recruiting for a Deputy Head Stage Engineering at the Gillian Lynne Theatre. In this exciting and varied role, you will: help manage the delivery of rehearsals and performances of our resident production, manage the delivery of concerts and events, carry out maintenance and installation of the technical and building infrastructure.

Through the leadership of a diverse and multi-skilled team, you will provide the highest standard of customer experience to our resident production and break new ground in our industry.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Essential

Ability to manage a team during a fit up or get out and during day-to-day operation in the absence of the Head of Stage Engineering.

Experience setting up West End or No.1 Touring Productions.

Advantageous

Previous experience independently directing a large team in technical matters.

Previous experience independently directing a fly floor and/or creating flying plots.

Salary: £18.68 per hour, rising in line with the SOLT/BECTU agreement.

Hours: 40 hours over 5 days

Job Requirements
What you'll be doing…

Working closely with the Technical Manager, along with the Head of Stage Engineering you will:
Ensure the team deliver the highest technical standards of customer service to the resident production for all performances, previews and technical rehearsals.
Help the Head of Stage Engineering lead the advance planning of all productions from a technical perspective including creating or reviewing Construction Phase Plans, Method Statements and Risk Assessments prior to productions coming into or leaving the Theatre.
Working closely with the visiting Company to ensure the resident production Load in and Load Out is planned in advance.
In the absence of the Head of Stage Engineering, managing a team to ensure safe and smooth operation of the resident production, ensuring the highest possible production standards are maintained whilst protecting the interest of LW Theatres
Job Responsibilities
What we need…

Practical knowledge of technical systems, including but not limited to Counterweight Flying System, Stage Deck, Stage Grid System, Rigging Systems, Safety Curtain, Stage Lantern and building systems.
Experience fitting up and getting out of concert, TV or touring productions.
Commercial awareness; able to assist with budget management.
Good working knowledge of the Health & Safety and Licensing requirements associated with theatrical management.
Awareness of Construction and Design Management 2015 and Technical Standards for Places of Entertainment.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Experience of leading, motivating and instructing technical team members during technical events.
Can adapt to changing circumstances and overcome challenges.
Can identify training needs and ensure the technical competence of a team.
