An open call is extended for a pioneering 21-day residency in Rennes Metropole, France, scheduled from November 28 to December 18, 2026. This initiative, part of the "New Circus Factory – Reuse: (Re)making for Circus" program under the European Culture Moves Europe, seeks three innovative circus artists and/or set designers/builders from Creative Europe countries (excluding France). The residency challenges participants to explore the transformative potential of everyday materials. This unique research laboratory focuses on reimagining common resources such as paper, cardboard, plastics, lightweight metals, textiles, reclaimed wood, and bicycle parts into captivating scenographic elements, sets, props, and ground-based apparatus for juggling, acrobatics, and balancing. The core philosophy emphasizes local creation, designing objects meant to be recreated using resources available in each territory, rather than requiring travel. Participants will benefit from a comprehensive support system, including a fully equipped construction workshop, a dedicated rehearsal stage, and a circus tent. On-site accommodation in single rooms, access to a shared kitchen, and working facilities are provided. Lunch is available Tuesday to Friday at Le Milieu canteen. Two expert mentors—a reuse specialist and a performing arts professional—will guide artists throughout their journey. Residents will also receive a contact guide to local reuse-sector stakeholders. Applications are welcome from individuals or groups (up to 3 people) who combine artistic practice with a passion for making and fabrication. Ideal candidates include circus artists interested in construction, scenography, or DIY, as well as builders/set designers specializing in circus. Key qualities include curiosity, a spirit of experimentation, attention to safety, and a desire to share and document work. Both emerging and established artists are encouraged to apply, regardless of background or experience level. This residency is fully accessible to artists with disabilities and those with specific accessibility needs. The residency framework focuses exclusively on ground-based experimentation, with no aerial apparatus or rigging points. It includes dedicated research and artistic/technical work sessions, opportunities for discussion with local reuse experts, and platforms to share and present developed work to the public. The working language for the residency is English. Eligibility requires applicants to be 18 or older, legally reside in a Creative Europe country other than France or its overseas territories, and be available for the entire residency period from November 28 to December 18, 2026. This opportunity is generously funded through Culture Moves Europe, providing a 900 € allowance per person, flat-rate travel expense coverage, and supplements for green mobility, visa fees, dependent children under 18, residents of OCTs/ORs, and those with disabilities or accessibility needs (including potential full coverage for a sign language interpreter). Technical support is also covered. To apply, please submit the following in a single PDF (with links if applicable):
1. Bio / CV (maximum 1 page)
2. Portfolio (maximum 5 pages or video links)
