Choreographer for the show DORIANexpired

THE HERON THEATER

France France, TBA
Posted on: Feb. 26, 2025

Description:

The Théâtre du Héron is a professional theatre company, based in Rezé, in the Pays de la Loire. The company promotes popular and demanding theatre, based on the text and regularly creates first translations of foreign plays in France.
Our creations carry both the transmission of a cultural heritage and the desire to discover new theatrical writings, poetic and ambitious. The troupe works in French and English and the actions extend to the local territory, national including the overseas departments, in Europe and in the world in partnership with different institutions.
In 2019, the Théâtre du Héron translated for the first time Beginning, by David Eldridge - originally produced at the National Theatre in London. The show was created at the Studio Hébertot, in Paris and this exploitation is followed by a tour, notably in Loire-Atlantique. The text is published by Éditions des Cygnes. The structure was officially established in June 2020.
In 2021, the company created Juste la fin du monde, directed by Fanny Bloc. The Théâtre du Héron continued its research on communication, the unspoken and approached the text in particular through a systemic approach. The play was a great success.
The company is currently continuing its research with a project that touches on identity and the question of language with the play Dorian by Phoebe Eclair-Powell and Owen Jones. This queer show is produced in partnership with the Big Bonobo company and its French creation is expected in 2025.
Job Description
For our French creation DORIAN directed by Flore Vialet, the Théâtre du Héron in association with the company BIG BONOBO, is currently looking for a choreographer to accompany the staging of the play.

The play puts into perspective the history of queer circles and its expression in the contemporary world. Oscar Wilde's novel, which is often considered a queer text, is in reality borrowed from the homophobia of the Victorian era. Eclair-Powell and Horsley's play places the story of Dorian in its context and presents it in a critical manner. It requires knowledge of English literary circles of the late 19th century, voguing culture, the history of gay, lesbian and queer movements in the United Kingdom in the 20th and 21st centuries, queer studies and contemporary queer artistic practices that are currently developing in raves and alternative venues. Eclair-Powell and Horsley's text is part of current issues of representation of minorities and questions the place of racialized people, from working classes and/or queers in the postcolonial Western world. Our dramaturgy as well as our way of working intends to raise the question of class, race and gender and their representations on and at the edge of the stage.
