Description:

An educational institution in Charlottesville, VA, is seeking an experienced Choreographer to lead the movement for its Upper School's upcoming production of Disney's FROZEN. This opportunity invites a passionate artist to collaborate with students of diverse skill levels, transforming the beloved contemporary musical into a vibrant stage experience. The engagement spans from November 9, 2026, to February 10, 2027, totaling approximately 8 weeks (35-40 days), with a generous stipend of $3,000.00. Rehearsals are typically scheduled Monday through Wednesday, from 3:45 PM to 6 PM, with planned school breaks from November 23-27, 2026, and December 16, 2026, to January 4, 2027. Key responsibilities for this role include conceptualizing and instructing choreography for approximately nine pivotal musical numbers from FROZEN, such as 'Vueile', 'Let the Sun Shine On', 'For the First Time in Forever', 'Dangerous to Dream', 'In Summer', 'Hygge', 'Fixer Upper', 'Kristoff Lullaby', and 'Finale'. The successful candidate will also lend their expertise to support the Director's blocking, integrating choreography into an additional 5-6 numbers. Essential duties involve close collaboration with the Director and the broader production team to ensure the choreography seamlessly aligns with the overall artistic vision of the show. Furthermore, the Choreographer will be instrumental in cultivating an encouraging and inclusive rehearsal environment, offering constructive feedback to nurture student growth and self-assurance. Prospective candidates should possess extensive experience across various dance disciplines, including musical theater, contemporary, and jazz, coupled with a demonstrated history of working effectively with students, ideally within a theatrical or educational context. Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities are paramount, alongside a steadfast commitment to professionalism and a kind, collaborative spirit. Applicants must confirm their availability for all scheduled rehearsals between November 9, 2026, and February 10, 2027, be able to commute to Charlottesville, VA, exhibit a profound passion for arts education, and successfully complete a background check.
