Description:
An esteemed European academy is extending an exclusive invitation to emerging choreographers to contribute to its highly anticipated Phoenix 2026 Summer Dance Intensive. This unique program, designed as a rigorous company-style training and performance experience rather than a brief workshop, offers a profound opportunity for artistic development and collaboration. We are seeking up to two innovative choreographers to develop captivating short works or movement sequences with participating dancers. This call is particularly suited for artists specializing in theatrical dance, who demonstrate exceptional clarity in movement composition, a keen sensitivity to stage dynamics, a collaborative spirit, and a strong interest in rehearsal-driven, performance-focused creation. We especially encourage those who are actively shaping their choreographic voice at the intersection of artistic education and pre-professional practice. The intensive runs from 13 July to 1 August 2026 in Salzburg, Austria. While the full program spans these dates, the primary creation period for selected choreographers is anticipated to be from 20 July to 1 August 2026, with an expectation of presence for the final performances. Exact working schedules will be mutually agreed upon with successful applicants. Selected works will culminate in the prestigious SADA Dance Gala 'Spotlight 2026', presented under full theatrical conditions at Odeïon Salzburg on Friday, 31 July and Saturday, 1 August 2026. Inclusion in these public performances is contingent on rehearsal progress, program planning, faculty evaluation, and practical feasibility. Proposals should outline a short theatrical piece, approximately 10 minutes in length. This can be a new creation or an adaptation of existing work, provided it aligns with the program's dancers, rehearsal environment, and performance context. The working language for the program is primarily English. Selected choreographers are exempt from participation fees. However, all personal expenses, including travel, accommodation, food, and insurance, must be covered by the participants. Organized accommodation is not provided, and participants are responsible for arranging their own housing and local transport in Salzburg. Successful applicants will be notified by 31 May 2026.
