Summary/objective
The Assistant Stage Manager (ASM) assists the Stage Manager with a wide variety of responsibilities. This can include attending production meetings, running rehearsals, clerical organization, and ensuring the smooth execution of performances.
The ASM is part of the management team of the production and sets the example of punctuality and professionalism. The ASM must be flexible and take initiative. Because each production is different, an ASM’s specific responsibilities will change.
Essential functions

· Calls all cues for one or more performance per production.
· Responsible for making quick, immediate and discretionary decisions in order to maintain the overall quality and integrity of each production.
· Supervises local union stagehands and non-union over hires at venues or Ballet Arizona facilities as needed.
· Provides insight into performance of over hires.
· Helps to maintain cleanliness and safety of studio and venue environments (Marley floors, dancer amenities, etc.).
· Works with Stage Manager to prepare and maintain technical documentation.
· Serves as Stage Manager for the School of Ballet Arizona Showcases and for Community Engagement Programming.
· Gives clerical support to the Director of Production and Stage Manager as needed.
· Performs other related duties as assigned.

Must possess a high level of digital literacy and be proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

Supervisory responsibilities
This position directly manages IATSE stagehands as needed.
Work environment
· Cyclical physical and scheduling demands, depending upon the season.
· Evening and weekend work required during the Ballet performance season.
Physical demands
Medium physical effort is required – must be able to lift up to 30 pounds
Must be able to climb stairs and ladders
Must be able to twist, turn, bend, and reach and work overhead
Must be able to push and pull heavy objects
Travel required
Travel to and from external event sites (within Maricopa County) is required.
Must be willing and able to commute to and from the office and event/performance sites on a regular basis.
· Travel may be required for occasional domestic and international touring engagements.
Required education and experience
High School Diploma or GED
· 2-4 years of stage management experience with a performing arts organization or venue
· Working knowledge of all key technical aspects involved with mounting a theatrical production
Preferred education and experience
Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis on Technical Theatre or Production preferred
Proficiency in Spanish desirable
