Job Description
Are you a Musician, with training in Keyboard/Piano performance to a professional standard? Do you have experience of East African music genres? Are you looking for a CPD/on-the-job training opportunity within a Music Theatre production? Would you benefit from a placement between January and 28 March 2026, to assist a Music Director on an RSC production?

The Music Director is Ashton Moore, who was nominated for the "Best Musical Director" prize at the 2025 Black British Theatre Awards. Ashton's theatre credits include Get Up Stand Up (Lyric Theatre), Play On (UK Tour), Cry-Baby (UK/European Premiere, Arcola Theatre, London), The Harder They Come (Stratford East), and West End Musical Christmas (Lyric Theatre).
The Music Supervisor for the production is Liam Godwin. Liam was the recipient of the Lord Michael Hastings of Scarisbrick Award at the 2025 Black British Theatre Awards for outstanding contribution to Theatre. He has worked with musicians Beverley Knight, Gareth Malone, JP Cooper, Melanie C, SAULT and most notably with pop star: Self Esteem (Rebecca Lucy Taylor) as her vocal musical director, arranger and pianist. He holds the accolade as the youngest ever West End conductor/musical director.
The production tells the inspirational, true story of William Kamkwamba's courageous efforts to save his Malawian village from drought. We encourage applications from under-represented groups within the Music Theatre Musician sector.
Pay for this role is £675 per week, subsistence will be paid for the Stratford-upon-Avon weeks.

Job Requirements
To be eligible for this placement opportunity, you must meet the essential criteria below:
Available for the full 12 weeks of the placement, in both London & Stratford upon Avon
Music training to a professional standard, with Keyboard/Piano as your principal instrument
Familiarity with Contemporary Music genres & Vocal singing styles of East Africa
Experience accompanying choreography/acting & singing rehearsals
Familiarity with music typesetting software, including Sibelius or Dorico
Familiarity with file sharing platforms, including Dropbox
Familiarity with DAWs, including Logic
