Purpose of the position

Under the authority of the general management, the person in the position of artistic director of Tissés Serrés, traditional dance has the mandate to ensure the development and conduct of the artistic signature of the organization, to assume the supervision of arts and to take under its direction the development of exemplary pedagogical practices, either by teaching (troupe), or by accompanying the teachers of the dance school.

Being the person in charge of the artistic direction, you will actively participate in the management of the artistic operations carried out by the employees of the organization. More specifically, you will assume the following responsibilities:

Develop, decide on and ensure the implementation of quality artistic programming.
Ensure the continuity of the operation of the troupe's repertoire;
Ensure the design and production of the annual show;
Teach traditional Quebec (main component) and international (secondary component) dance to the dancers of the troupe;
Prepare, supervise and accompany the dancers of the troupe for shows, special activities and international tours (biannual);
Direct and supervise all troupe rehearsals;
Ensure the continuity of the teachings given by the guest choreographers;
Represent the organization with arts organizations on the local and provincial scene;
Supervise and mentor the teachers of the dance school;
Develop knowledge of traditional Quebec dance in the school's training program;
Collaborate with the communication committee regarding the distribution of advertising and internal and external communications of the troop;
You are able to show leadership as well as excellent communication skills in order to mobilize the dancers of the troupe and to motivate the teachers of the other groups of the school. You will be supported by the general management, in accordance with the strategic orientations, the mission and the values ​​of the organization.
Skills and Abilities

Have the ability to transmit the mastery of dance, in particular traditional dance and Quebec jig;
Have a sense of organization and the ability to manage multiple files in parallel;
Be rigorous, know how to plan and have a sense of anticipation;
Demonstrate autonomy, reliability and integrity;
Communicate in a clear, appropriate and respectful manner;
Good ability to manage stress and assume the decisions made;
Be interested in strategic thinking from the perspective of the performing arts and dance community (an asset);
Being sensitive to the challenges facing the transmission of tradition (an asset);
Know how to mobilize, encourage and accompany and manage a group of adults;
Requirements

Good command of French with a high ability to write in French;
Be able to travel throughout the territory of Laval;
Know the world of traditional dance.
Conditions of employment

Part-time: 4.5 hours/week for the preparation and teaching of dance and for choreographic writing, then 5 to 15 hours/week for administrative tasks which will be distributed according to your skills, aptitudes and interests. Two project managers are available to support you and complete administrative tasks;
Annual salary: To be determined based on the number of hours negotiated and the experience acquired;
Be available on Monday evenings and occasionally on weekends for one-off events and the supervision of the troupe's dance contracts;
Be available during the summer to lead a 2-3 week international tour to overseas festivals (biannual).
