What country did women's day start - Performing Arts Events - StageLync
The first official National Women's Day was observed in the Soviet Union in 1917. The day was established by the Socialist Party to recognize the contributions of women in the Russian Revolution and to advocate for women's rights. The first National Women's Day in the Soviet Union was celebrated on February 23rd, 1917, which corresponds to March 8th according to the Gregorian calendar used in most countries today. The day was marked by protests and demonstrations organized by women workers in Petrograd (now St. Petersburg) to demand better working conditions and an end to World War I.
