Theatre Conversations - Circus life: Cultures and communities - Performing Arts Events - StageLync
The art form of circus was invented by impresario and trick horse rider Philip Astley in London in 1768. To mark its 250th anniversary Birkbeck will be hosting a number of events celebrating the skills and traditions of this uniquely self-sustaining, practice-enabling global community of performers who dedicate their lives to this accessible form of live entertainment.

This panel discussion, which is presented as part of the Birkbeck Centre for Contemporary Theatre's season of events on the theme of "Displacement", will be hosted by Centre Fellow Julius Green. Offering a unique opportunity to meet with performers from the traditional circus community and discuss their life and work. Julius is Creative Director of Cirque Berserk and a director of the Academy of Circus Arts.

This event accompanies the exhibition Circus Life: Art and Artistes running at the Peltz Gallery from 7 November – 12 December 2018. Featuring paintings, drawings, photographs, ceramics and sculpture the work capturing and exploring the people, places and performances of the Circus.
