'Making the Case for Circus and Play' with Martin King Sheard
There are growing numbers of us who are deeply concerned that as we recover from the effects of the pandemic that children’s right to play will not be given the importance it deserves. Much of the media attention seems to focus on children catching up academically but there seems to be no clear plan as to how children catch up with each other socially, regain lost confidence, adapt their physical skills and work through the emotional impact the lockdown and pandemic. Fortunately children have a well evolved mechanism that can help with all of these things and it is PLAY!
This workshop will explore
what play is
how we advocate for play to be a key part of the recovery plan for children
how the argument is supported by policy and research
how play and circus are linked.
Martin King-Sheard is a playworker, play trainer, play advocate and circus practitioner. He works for the National Charity, Play Wales, as the policy lead for Workforce Development and also volunteers as a circus tutor with CircoArts in North Wales.

'Thinking Ahead- Developing Circus Tutors' with Natalie Thompson, Peter Duncan and Annabel Carberry
Aiming to stimulate discussion on building capacity and competence in the sector
Should we be encouraging people to skill themselves up with on line courses ?
Should CPD be part of circus schools ?
Should there be a centre for circus teaching ?
This session will be facilitated by Natalie Thompson, Peter Duncan and Annabel Carberry
Annabel Carberry is a Flying Fruit Fly alumni, professional performer and co-founder of Lit Circus, Education Director for the Oak Circus Centre in Norwich snd CircusWorks board member
Peter Duncan is an internationally reknowned freelance trainer, founder of Circus Eruption and CircusWorks Director.
Natalie Thompson played foodball at international level for Northern Ireland before training as a circus coach and performer. She recently completed her study based upon circus coaching and understanding of physical literacy, gaining her a BSc (Hons) in Sports Coaching and Performance

We will be working in the relationship between grounding the juggling in a more theatrical context.
This is the core of the class. It's for all levels, no experience required
Hugo Maciel Da Silva Oliveira trained at LISPA and Circomedia before joining NoFit State's Bianco. Now based in Portugal, he has a performance company, Oliveira & Batchler, with long time collaborator Sage Bachtler Cushman

'The Roadmap'. What does the recent announcement on reopening mean for youth circuses? Teo Greenstreet (Greentop Community Circus, Sheffield), Jono Ayres (Circomedia) and Sarah Carrie (Circus Central) will discuss their plans for recommencing activity in their organisations in line with government advice.
