STATE OF PLAY: a clown gathering 30 Nov/1 Dec - Performing Arts Events - StageLync
Edge Hill University in partnership with School of Arts and Media, University of Salford and The Performer’s Playground welcomes you to a 2-day symposium on clowning to be held at Edge Hill University, Ormskirk, on Friday 30 November and Saturday 1 December 2018, with events also taking place in the School of Arts and Media, University of Salford.

About the symposium
STATE OF PLAY is an opportunity for anyone interested in the art of the clown to meet, connect, play and ask crucial questions about the condition of clowning today. STATE OF PLAY takes the evolving relationship of clown and circus as a starting point to ask broader questions about the relevance of clowning in today’s society. What are the new environments for clown performance today? Where are clowns employed and for what purposes? What training exists and what more is needed? What contributions can clown theories make to professional practice? Are clowns able to be politically effective or are they simply entertainers?
