MICC 2018 - Collective creation in the contemporary circus - Performing Arts Events - StageLync
The circus milieu has forged a tradition of collectives and even today favours this mode of invention and functioning - without always claiming this terminology. Several questions can be asked: is the collective a criticism of the hierarchies of classical live performance? Is it to affirm the dual role of author and performer of each artist on the set? Is it to say that their art is not dissociable from their circus techniques, their personality from their artistic practice? Do circus artists embrace a political and civic commitment by choosing this mode of operation?

The discussion will allow analyzing several hypotheses about collective writing, to evoke different examples of creative dynamics thanks to the panellists. The session will also address issues related to the "structural fluidity" of collectives, the alternative models they use to produce and present works, sometimes calling into question the uses of the professional sector or intervening in other socio-economic fields.
