Introduction to PLAY tools with Dr Dean Kriellaars - Performing Arts Events - StageLync
We are excited to announce that Dr Dean Kriellaars has agreed to run a training session in the use of PLAY tools. This will be in addition to presenting at our conference, and can be booked independently, or alongside a conference ticket.

Dean created PLAY tools as a way to measure Physical Literacy development. They have been essential in providing quantitive data which has formed the basis of Dean’s research work with Patrice Aubertin

Dean and Patrice came to our conference in 2015 with ground breaking research on the benefits of practicing circus skills compared to normal PE. The results of their work have been used to promote circus in schools as an alternative or addition to sport.

Once you have learned to use the PLAY tools you will be able to measure progress in the children and young people you work with, and generate your own research data.

Here’s what the Canadian Physical Literacy website has to say about PLAY tools:
“The Physical Literacy Assessment for Youth (PLAY) Tools are meant to improve our populations level of physical literacy. Directed at individuals aged seven and up, the PLAY Tools determine gaps in physical literacy development, and provide calls-to-action to help improve these areas.
Physical literacy is a gateway to an active lifestyle from childhood through to adulthood, says PLAY creator Dr. Dean
Kriellaars. These tools will help us understand the factors that can be modified to improve the overall activity level of
Canadians, leading to healthier, disease-free lives. If we don’t measure it, it isn’t important. This will place physical literacy on an equal footing with literacy and numeracy.”
