Circus! Show of Shows - Performing Arts Events - StageLync
This exhibition is part of a nationwide museums partnership with Museums Sheffield and Tyne and Wear Archives and Museums. The exhibition has been co-curated by Professor Vanessa Toulmin a leading circus expert and supported by key loans from the National Fairground and Circus Archive at the University of Sheffield. The exhibition has been made possible thanks to a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The exhibition addresses a variety of themes, using amazing circus objects, textiles and archive material to explore, amongst other things, black circus performers, historic and contemporary examples of women in circus, and the use of animals within shows. Original circus posters, many being displayed for the first time since their associated shows ended, will document the changing styles, offers and attitudes that existed throughout Circuses’ long history within Britain.
