Circus and Education Study Day - Performing Arts Events - StageLync
Presented in collaboration with the Centre de recherche, d'innovation et de transfert en arts du cirque de l’École nationale de cirque
Thursday 18 January, 10 am to 1 p.m.
Library of the National Circus School
Please rsvp: [email protected]

Organized by Alisan Funk (McGill), Dr. Marie-Eve Skelling (Concordia), and Dr. Louis Patrick Leroux (Concordia)

This study day will be an opportunity to openly discuss pertinent issues of training and education in the circus, from teacher training, professional training to the emergence of a broad emerging academic field of circus studies.

What are the aims and objectives of circus education? What are the existing forms of circus education and who or what markets do they benefit? Is professional training viable on its own in supporting a circus ecology without instituting a wider field of circus studies? How do we see the present and future of circus teaching, training and study in North America and beyond?

Three thematic discussions bringing together practitioners, students, teachers and professors :

1) Current practices at professional circus schools. Led by Marie-Eve Skelling
2) Spaces in-between : where wolds meet, collide, collaborate. Led by Alisan Funk
3) What place for the university in circus and circus in the university. Led by Louis Patrick Leroux
