Rae Lawhorne (they/she) grew up in the mountains of Virginia, filling their time with as many dance classes as they could. They graduated summa cum laude from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) with a BFA in Dance and Choreography, where they focused on modern and contemporary techniques. Throughout her time at VCU, Rae had the privilege of performing in works by student choreographers and by faculty choreographers Scott Putman, Melanie Richards, and Dr. Gaynell Sherrod, and worked under internationally recognized guest artist Gregory Maqoma. They also performed at Jacob’s Pillow’s annual Inside/Out performance series through the American College Dance Association Highlights program and appeared in VCU alumni Callie Moore’s dance film, Snap Soup, which has been featured in film festivals around the country. After college, Rae turned her focus towards the world of circus. They are a recent graduate of the New England Center for Circus Arts (NECCA) ProTrack program, where they specialized in aerial hoop and Chinese pole, and joined the youth faculty. Rae is currently coaching and performing circus around the New England area and hopes to continue for a long time to come.
