Born on the 20th of September 1997, Lovemore Taona is a Zimbabwean dancer and choreographer
who studied at Chipawo Zimbabwe and at AfriKera Arts Trust under Soukaina Edom Marie-Laure
the artistic director and founder.
I received my early training for two years at ‘Chipawo Arts Trust’, the home for the traditional
dancers of Zimbabwe and African. After my training l was then employed for one year as a dance
instructor at Chipawo Arts Trust (2014-15), working in different communities as it is a non-profit
making organization. During my time in Chipawo l was exposed to ‘Tambarimba band’,Kutinya
Marimba and The Blacks, l began working there as a dancer and then learnt two Zimbabwean
traditional instruments namely Marimba translated as ‘Xylophone’ in English and Ngoma which is the
African drum, this all just to enhance my dancing career.
In 2015 Lovemore was enrolled in AfriKera Arts Trust which is a three year professional dance
program. During my time at AAT, I was approached to start giving dance and fitness classes at SOS
CHILDREN'S VILLAGE, ‘a children's home institute’ for a year, (2017-2018) I was working with
themes based on drug awareness and child abuse, social problems, team work and l found these
subjects stimulating and working with different body abilities.
I hold a Toast Masters International certificate for being able to speak in public. Doing this at the
same time with the dance training course made it easy for me to adapt to various situations like
management and working with others. In 2017 I was selected to represent Zimbabwe at the Summer
L.A Cultural Dance Exchange.
I Lovemore Gift Taona with educational qualification of professional dance training ,choreography and performance ( theater arts) and working as a performer and teacher with Lingling International Circus China.
I have completed my studies in 2018 and since then, I have been working with total years of experience three years . After gaining work exposure in the current position now I am looking forward to achieving and learning more through a better job opportunity. My aim always has been growing in terms of my career and with the recent opening with your esteemed organization I am sure is best suited for me.
