About the artist and the Multicorde:
The Multicorde is an aerial circus apparatus. Leoni started her professional career at the "Academy for Circus and Perfomance Arts (ACaPA)" in the Netherlands for one year, followed by 3 years of bachelor studies at the "Ecole Supérieure des Arts du Cirque (ESAC)" in Brussels until October 2020.
Leoni spends a lot of time exploring the infinite possibilities of her curtain of ropes. She is not only looking for a unique technical language but is interested in telling stories through the apparatus.
The ropes are not just an object, but a living material with which the circus artist maintains a dialogue. Leoni integrates elastic ropes that give a visually surprising effect. She invites the spectator to search for the secret of gravity: how is it possible? Where are the elastic ropes? Or just enjoy the moment. The artist's subject matter often stems from a conflict or inner state that revolves around identity, her female body and the surpassing of oneself. Through her body and the movement in the ropes, Leoni tries to create a channel of communication. The audience is always invited to interpret their own story.
Skills:
Throughout her studies, the aerial artist deepened her knowledge of dance and took several workshops besides her dance class at school. She is very interested in floor movement, as well as handstand, where she has a good basis and a nice line. Her strengths are flexibility and agility, physical endurance, a unique technique in her apparatus and her sensitivity for others and for artistic creation.
