I am an historical writer with a special interest in Victorian circus. 'Evenings of Wonder - Real Lives, Extraordinary Stories' is a thrilling chronicle of the many British and international circus personalities that performed on the Isle of Man between 1802 and 1896. All the named characters are based on real people, and each chapter brings to life acts including equestrian, acrobatic, aerialist, strongman, rope walking and water spectacles. The book also covers performance, training, diets, circus language, architecture and the daily minutiae of circus life. All details are factual, the narrative is fictional, creating gripping and vivid scenarios. Each chapter also ends with an 'Addendum' - added details taken from newspaper archives that tell the reader what happened to the various characters. The book also has a Glossary of Victorian circus language and a detailed bibliography for reference. Published July 2019 by Sue King, Isle of Man
