My name is Camila Ribeiro, I'm 28 years old and I'm Brazilian born in the extreme south of Brazil. I am a researcher in the Group of Cultural Studies of Physical Education (Federal University of Pelotas-Brazil) and also a member of the Research Group on Circus Arts (CIRCUS) coordinated by the Prof. Dr. Marco Bortoleto in the School of Physical Education at the University of Campinas (UNICAMP). This group has a great impact on the Brazilian academic production related to circus. The CIRCUS group is a partner of the World Circus Network in Brazil, it has an official agreement with the National School of Circus (Rio de Janeiro -
Brazil); it integrates the Latin American Network of Circus Schools. In my master's research conducted at the Federal University Pelotas (UFPel) I investigated some relationships between modern sport and contemporary circus artists. I am currently a teacher at the Department of Body Practices of the University of the Republic (Uruguay), and I am on leave to study my PhD at UNICAMP. Under the guidance of Dr. Marco A C Bortoleto the PhD thesis aims to study the contemporary circus in Uruguay.
I was a circus artist at the Grupo Tholl and since then I've been researching aerials skills. In the Department of Body Practices of the Universidad of the Republic, Uruguay, I am responsible for the disciplines of Rhythm and Movement, Gymnastics and also History of Physical Education.
