BIRCUS Brewing Co. -and- Circus Mojo

Chief Goof-Officer, Paul Hallinan Miller was a Clown with Ringling Bros. & Barnum and Bailey Circus in 1996-97. In 2001 he created CircEsteem a not-for-profit community circus in Chicago. CircEsteem created a space and jobs for adult circus performers to hone their craft. Our work is based on traditional apprenticeship learning with many performances / week in a wide variety of environments. Circus Mojo & BIRCUS Brewing Co are based in a Historic movie theatre across the river from Cincinnati, Ohio in Ludlow, Kentucky. BIRCUS (BEERCUS), a Flemish pronunciation as if spelled with a tricked out Ï, is the collaborative brainstorm and clever invention of Circusplaneet, a circus in Ghent, Belgium. Circusplaneet who “dreamed of a better world. A place where kids, youngsters and adults could celebrate their quirky creative zest of life. And all of this in an atmosphere of trust, solidarity and fun.” At the 2010 Network of International Circus Educators Conference in Berlin, Circus Mojo’s Founder, Paul, met Circusplaneet’s Coördinator, Matthias Vermael. An innovator, free thinker and showman, Vermael introduced Miller to BIRCUS, an idea sparked from the desire to eschew government funding in pursuit of circus autonomy. Fancy that! These kindred spirits bonded over a couple BIRCUS beers and planned to bring this big-top idea stateside. Miller licensed the concept and set forth to expand the Ludlow Theatre into a brewery connected to local history, community outreach, unique entertainment and stellar beer. We have hosted artists from 43 countries and have been an important step in the professional development for many artists who have an act they have been rehearsing but need to perform it dozens if not hundreds of times for thousands of people.Countless artists who trained with Miller are now earning a living as circus performers.
