Renata Barcellos is a Brazilian artist whose lifelong passion for movement and expression has shaped her diverse career in both dance and circus arts. A graduate in Physical Education from IBMR, Renata's artistic journey began at the age of five, when she first explored dance. Over the years, she trained in classical ballet, jazz, and contemporary dance, refining her skills with renowned masters in each discipline. At 18, she joined Cia Brasileira de Ballet in Rio de Janeiro, where she performed in prestigious theaters across Brazil, dancing classical and neoclassical repertoires alongside some of the country's most talented professionals.
A few years later, she began working with Cia Viva, a contemporary dance company. In addition, she participated as a contemporary dancer in several other renowned projects in the Brazilian scene. Her curiosity and desire to explore led her to the world of circus arts in 2018, a turning point that reshaped her creative path. She began with ground acrobatics and acro-dance, before expanding into aerial disciplines like dance trapeze. Fascinated by the possibilities of circus, Renata deepened her studies at Intrépida Trupe, learning from exceptional coaches.
Her dedication took her to Portugal, where she studied at Salto International Circus School. Furthering her circus education, Renata also attended the prestigious Escola Nacional de Circo do Brasil (ENCLO), where she specialized in the fusion of contemporary dance and aerial arts, focusing on dance trapeze and aerial straps.
Renata's work has been showcased in several international festivals, including the Almaty International Circus Festival, Salieri Circus Award, the Festival Mundial de Circo, and FIRCO, where her act where recognized with several awards. Each of these experiences has contributed to her growing expertise and passion for combining the artistry of dance with the expressive power of circus.
For Renata, dance has instilled values of discipline, fluidity, and dedication, while circus has added new layers of freedom, authenticity, and self-expression. The combination of both art forms is her true passion—an ongoing exploration of creativity, power, and movement that continues to shape her as an artist.
