Antonia has graduated from the International School of Mimodrama of Marcel Marceau in Paris (2005) where she was taught technique Marceau, technique Decroux, drama, physical creation and ballet.
In parallel, she obtained a postgraduate diploma with the specialization in Theatre and Performing Arts (DEA-Théâtre et Arts du Spectacle) from the Faculty of Lettres, Langues et Spectacles of University Paris X- Nanterre (2005) with scholarship of the Kriezi institution. In 2014, she obtained her PhD with the thesis “The tragic mime in the work of Jean-Louis Barrault” with Great Honors.
She finished a second Master degree in Theatre: directing and dramaturgy from the Nanterre University (2017-2018).
Antonia continued her investigation and up-date on physical theatre through an one-year actors training with Théâtre du Mouvement (Claire Heggen, Yves Marc), an one-year training on Complicité and J.Lecoq principles (with Costas Philippoglou) and various workshops with renown artists such as Ariane Mnouchkine (Théâtre du Soleil), Francesca Lattuada, Theodoros Terzopoulos, Thomas Leabhart, Claudia Castellucci (Societas Raffaelo).
Antonia worked as a physical performer, a director and a movement director is various performances in Greece and France. The last years, she is a collaborator of the well-known French street theatre company Teatro del Silencio touring with them to street festivals across France, Spain, Chile, South Korea and the Netherlands (https://www.teatrodelsilencio.net/spectacles/oh-!-secours.html ).
Antonia Vasilakou is also a hatha yoga instructor and incorporates this practice into her artistic and educational endeavors.
Since 2008, she has been imparting her expertise in physical theatre, as a faculty member, teaching several physical theatre performative techniques (J.Lecoq, M.Marceau, E.Decroux, V.Meyerhold, M.Chevkov, R. Schecher, S. Bloch) to “Physical Theatre Technique’’ courses at the undergraduate (BA) and postgraduate (MA) Programs of Studies of the Department of Theatre Studies, Faculty of Arts, at the University of Peloponnese.
She engages in European research programs, congresses and workshops on a regular basis in Greece and France. Her papers have been featured in collective volumes and academic conference proceedings. Finally, she is a member of the directors-choregraphers association Kato apo tin skini and the Hellenic Association of Theatrologists.
