Aleksey Smolov

Hi! I'm a circus artist from Riga, Latvia actively involved in the Baltic performing scene and the life of local circus community.

Being a competitive martial artist I've met the universe of performing arts through fire manipulation and contemporary dance roughly 10 years ago and immensely fell in love with it. 

Around 7 years ago the freedom of Cyr wheeling popped up on the horizon of my interests and since then the apparatus became a medium of exploring the inner and outer worlds. The findings of this exploration and joy I experience through my body and interaction with the object I share with people performing today.

My journey is autodidactic without having a professional degree in performing arts, which allowed me to gather different experiences and knowledges all the way through. I've been learning through collaborative (mostly intradisciplinary) creations, workshops and loads of time spent in training spaces with the wheel.

In 2019 I've entered the academic field of circus arts through independent courses in the SKH, DOCH (firstly a Summer Camp, then Collective Improvisation in Circus and Music and finally the Artistic Development within a Circus Discipline courses through the years 2019-2021) which provided me a boost both technically and artistically as well as provided a connection with an international network out of Baltics.

At the moment I'm an active circus artist mostly finding own voice in the field of contemporary arts. I'm a creator and performer of shows and pieces, which mostly is a meeting point for different art forms, as well as an artist of the corporate events and entertainment performing scene.

At the moment I'm looking for a possibilities to work and share my skills internationally, to collaborate with more creative and experienced people from the field and meet more audiences worldwide!
