Theatre Aspen, the award-winning professional theatre company located in the heart of the Colorado mountains, is accepting applications for a Company Manager to join our summer staff. Situated in one of the most unique destinations in the world, Theatre Aspen is the region’s most celebrated theatrical institution and has been a fixture of the community for over forty years, attracting a long litany of renowned performers.

The Wig Supervisor will lead the wig department for Theatre Aspen’s summer season. In collaboration with the costume designer, the Wig Supervisor will source and/or build wigs for our mainstage summer season. During the run of the show, the Wig Supervisor will lead the maintenance of the wigs with assistance from the wardrobe team as appropriate. The Wig Supervisor will assist the costume team as time allows.

Reports to the Production Manager and Managing Director. Works with costume and sound designers, stage management, directors, and performers.

Requirements:

Experience in wig design, styling, and maintenance in a theatre or similar performance environment.

Strong knowledge of wig-making techniques, materials, and tools, as well as styling for different periods, genres, and cultures.

Experience fitting wigs on a variety of actors.

Experience tracking wigs for theatrical productions.

Extensive knowledge of hair styling and makeup techniques.

Ability to perform wig maintenance ensuring that design remains intact through closing.

Knowledge of wigs from human to synthetic of different mediums.

Experience handling budgets, inventories, and production schedules.

Ability to set priorities, build/maintain a schedule, and meet deadlines.

Ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve in high-tension situations.

Experience using Excel, Word, Google Docs, Calendar, etc.

Ability to work and adapt to various conditions (e.g., outdoors, weather, etc.).

Responsibilities:

Source, build, and maintain all wigs, creating a wig design for each show in collaboration with the costume designer.

Assist in maintaining the Hurst Theatre and the season’s productions by overseeing the wig department, including acting as a mentor to Theatre Aspen Apprentices.

Assist with all load-in and load-out of the wig and wardrobe department from rehearsal spaces and the Hurst Theatre site.

Oversee all aspects of the Wig department budget in conjunction with the Production Manager.

Organize and maintain all areas of the wig department, including personnel, wigs, and makeup, ensuring all elements comply with AEA rules.

Organize inventory, restocking, and ordering of all wig and makeup supplies.

Attend and participate in pre-production conferences, season production meetings, and tech production meetings as requested.

Attend all rehearsals as required to complete work and prepare/supply wig and makeup needs in coordination with designers, production, and stage management.

Assist designers in the creation of a wig prep list and schedule prior to show opening dates.

Work with the designer and management to ascertain what additional materials may be necessary.

Acquire materials with guidance from and prior approval of the Production Manager and/or General Management.

Design all wig and makeup tracks backstage for performances in conjunction with the Designer, Sound Designers, and Stage Management.

Serve as a wig crew member on each production, leading wig changes and assisting with costume changes as requested.

Train wardrobe crew members as appropriate to execute wig changes backstage.

Coordinate all wig maintenance.

Coordinate and perform any repairs needed throughout the season, arranging over-hire as needed.

Ensure all wig pieces are clean, styled, and ready for the actors no later than 45 minutes prior to each performance. All sound/microphone support that requires coordination and assistance must be ready one hour prior to performance time or in time for all sound check calls, whichever is earlier.

Coordinate all changeovers.

Supervise and strike all wigs and makeup inventory at the end of the season and organize/assist in storage.

Assist, strike, and return any rented items.

This position supervises Theatre Aspen Apprentices, mentoring and training emerging talent within the field. The willingness to collaborate, instruct, and provide guidance is an essential requirement.

Dates: June 3, 2025 – August 29, 2025Pay: $900 per week with housing and travel provided
