POSITION SUMMARY:
The Vocal Director teaches performers the vocals of Royal Caribbean Cruises award-winning production shows in a timely manner, maintains original intent and direction, coaches and develops performers talent(s), contributes to, and maintains a positive working environment inspiring team morale, and works closely with other Creative Talent Team members to deliver top-quality and stellar production performances. These contributions positively influence our guests' overall entertainment experience.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Teach vocals to shipboard cast members in rehearsals to prepare them for successfully performing in several multi-million-dollar production shows across Royal Caribbean's fleet of ships. Proficiency in teaching and coaching contemporary musical theatre and pop.
Provide feedback and direction in rehearsals that include style and showmanship, character development, motivation, director’s intent, notes/corrections.
Develop and communicate cast expectations, motivate, and inspire cast members to reach their full potential, instilling Royal Caribbean Values.
Ability to work in tandem with director/choreographer to facilitate, mount and install pre-existing RCCL produced production shows.
Willing to learn studio audio console and run sound for rehearsals and run thrus.
Willing to learn technical/sound aspects of shows, have an ear & knowledge of sound to communicate with onboard sound technician (EQ singers, proper mix/balance between vocals & orchestra).
Comfortable communicating and corresponding with onboard Musical Director & Orchestra
Liaison with the Royal Caribbean Productions Studios Office Staff on the successful transition of casts from studios to the ships, including review cast strengths and opportunities.
Coordinate with the Stage & Production Manager, Directors, Choreographers & Creative Talent Team, to build schedules and support technical needs (I.E., oversee pre-recordings, Vocal Sick Tracks, costumes, props, etc.).
Willing to dedicate 6 – 16 weeks per project.
Willing to travel and sail onboard RCCL Vessels per project (air travel & accommodations provided).
Ability to work with two casts simultaneously.
Update and maintain show-specific training materials that include vocal books.
Independent contractor position.
Note: Rehearsals are held in North Miami, Florida
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree in Music, Theatre, Performing Arts preferred
3-5 years of experience in musical theatre, cruise entertainment, or comparable industry, preferably in a teaching or supervisorial role
Minimum of one-year teaching experience
Proficient Piano skills
Excellent communication skills
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and computer networking infrastructure. General understanding of Theatre/Cruise operations. Stage Write software. Sibelius Music Notation software.
