Job Summary The selected candidate will lead the Scenic Design area in an active graduate and undergraduate Theatre Program at the nationally accredited University of Southern Mississippi. This is a full-time, visiting, Spring semester contract. Applicants from diverse cultural backgrounds strongly encouraged to apply. Primary Responsibilities 1. Teaches scenic design courses. 2. Serves as Head of MFA Scenic Design area. 3. Advises scene design students in creative projects. 4. Mentors students in scenic painting of productions. 5. Designs scenery for one production during academic year as creative research 6. Attends all faculty, School, and Production meetings. 7. Collaborates with Technical Director/Production Manager/Program Coordinator on designer assignments. 8. Participates in recruitment for program. 9. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Minimum Qualifications M.F.A. in Scene Design or related field. Demonstrated understanding of current design and technology. Ability to work as collaborator across disciplines. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities • Knowledge in Computer Aided Drafting—Auto/Cad or Vector Works, Scenic Painting. Preferred Qualifications • Experience teaching in higher education. Experience mentoring graduate students. • Experience in Projection Design. • Professional experience in scene design and related work.
