Job Summary
Welsh National Opera is currently looking for a Touring Wardrobe Technician to support the Touring Wardrobe Manager with delegated touring wardrobe tasks, maintaining standards and developing performance.
Job Description
What will be required of you?
As a Touring Stage Technician, you will be required to apply your practical stagecraft skills, knowledge, and experience to ensure that productions meet the highest standards and accurately reflect the creative and artistic vision of the production team, both in Cardiff and during tours.
You will be responsible for providing hands-on technical expertise in areas such as production carpentry, theatrical flying, safe trailer loading, and heavy-duty manual handling. Additionally, teamwork will be essential as you assist in supervising Assistant Technicians, Apprentices, Venue Technicians, and Agency Crew on-site.
You'll attend Stage Department and Technical Meetings as needed and help with task delegation within the department. Moreover, you will contribute to the smooth functioning of administrative and financial aspects.
What you will need to have?
The desired qualifications for the role include practical expertise in heavy-duty manual handling and basic working at height techniques. Additionally, candidates should possess practical skills, knowledge, and experience in at least one of the following areas: production carpentry, theatrical flying & rigging, safe loading of trailers, or general stagecraft.
Other essential attributes are the ability to follow cues during performances and rehearsals, adhere to method statements with the use of ground and stage plans, and have a working knowledge of current Health & Safety practices relevant to the role. The job requires a flexible approach and the ability to travel independently both within the UK and abroad.

Knowledge of current Health & Safety practices.
Flexible and adaptable.
Willing and able to travel independently in the UK and abroad.
Job Responsibilities
Production
Apply practical stagecraft skills to deliver high-standard productions, ensuring creative vision is met in Cardiff and on tour.
Provide technical expertise in areas such as carpentry, flying, trailer loading, and manual handling.
Support all WNO activities including rehearsals, concerts, digital work, and events.
Maintain clean, organized workspaces and equipment.
Assist with Get Ins/Outs and support other departments as needed.
Teamwork
Help supervise Assistant Technicians, Apprentices, and Crew.
Attend meetings and assist with task delegation.
Develop collaboration with WNO teams, venues, and partners.
Admin & Finance
Follow admin systems, supporting timesheets, holidays, and staffing records with People & Culture.
Stores
Assist with storing and maintaining scenery, props, and staging equipment.
