Job Purpose:
The Theatre Technician supports all technical aspects of CPFA’s theatre productions and events. This hands-on role includes managing lighting, sound, rigging, set construction, and backstage operations. In addition to overseeing technical execution, the technician mentors students involved in technical theatre, guiding them through safe and effective participation in production activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage and implement all technical elements for productions, including lighting, audio, rigging, and scenic construction.
Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot theatrical systems and equipment.
Collaborate with directors, designers, and staff to realize technical and artistic goals.
Mentor student crew members during rehearsals, build days, and performances.
Enforce and model backstage safety protocols.
Maintain organized technical workspaces, equipment inventories, and storage systems.
Provide on-site technical support for rehearsals, performances, and special events, including evening and weekend hours as needed.
Qualifications
Education, Certification (if applicable), Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Relevant professional or academic experience in technical theatre
Proficiency in lighting, sound, carpentry, and backstage production operations
Experience mentoring or supervising students or volunteers in a production setting
Stagecraft techniques, including lighting, sound, rigging, and scenic construction
Use, care, and safety of theatrical tools, materials, and equipment.
Industry-standard safety procedures and backstage protocols
Production timelines and basic stage management processes
Operating lighting and sound systems (ETC, QLab, or comparable platforms)
Scenic carpentry, rigging, and basic scenic painting
Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
Diagnosing and resolving technical issues under time constraints
Working collaboratively with artists, students, and support staff
Mentor and guide students in technical production roles
Prioritize and manage multiple production tasks and deadlines.
Communicate clearly and professionally in a fast-paced environment.
Adapt to changing production needs and troubleshoot under pressure.
Safely lift and transport equipment and materials for strikes and load-ins
Maintain a positive, professional demeanor during extended work hours.

All PA Leadership Charter School applicants and employees will need to provide Pennsylvania Clearances: Act 34, 114, and 151 upon employment, as well as every five years from the date the previous clearance was obtained.
