Description:Job Description / DutiesResponsibilities: • Reporting to the venue Technical Director, the technician provides support for the assigned rental/activity, including: o Preparation and rigging of stage sets, equipment, props, and stage resources; o Preparation and rigging of lighting, sound, and projection equipment; o Working on load-in, setup, tear-down, and load outs, as required and as assigned; o Running crew for performances, including the running of audio, lighting, and video consoles, counterweight fly systems, and backstage operations, as required and as assigned; o Occasional props, scenery, or stage equipment maintenance; o Occasional preparation and maintenance of wardrobe; o Occasional painting of stage, sets, props, and touchups as needed; o Assisting with ensuring that working areas and equipment are kept in a clean, tidy, and safe condition; o Working in accordance with the Health and Safety policies and legislation in force; o Other duties as assigned. Qualifications / Required Skills Ideal Experiences and Skills: • Outstanding collaborator and team player – with a positive attitude and problem-solving focus. • Able to handle intense, stressful or emergent situations with grace, good humour, excellent communication & strong conflict resolution skills. • A passion for the arts, in all its forms (theatre, music, dance, educational, etc.) • Maintains a professional appearance and demeanor at all times, punctual and reliable. • Previous experience an asset: QLab, ETC Eos Lighting Consoles, DiGiCo Sound Consoles; hanging, focusing lights; installing sound equipment; operating sound or lighting for shows; running crew or similar. • Certificates in Basic First Aid (formally Emergency First Aid Level 1), fall arrest, and lift training are an asset but not required at time of hiring. Qualifications: • The ability to lift at least 50lbs. • Comfort working at heights. • An interest in all aspects of technical theatre, with some experience demonstrated, at any level. o The ideal candidate might have demonstrated practical, hands-on experience in professional technical theatre and/or formal training in technical theatre; o The ideal candidate may also have an understanding of modern stage equipment including lighting, sound, rigging, painting and scenery construction techniques; • Experience in carpentry, paint, rigging, lighting or electrical work are assets • A team player, willing to learn, ready to “pitch in”, and able to get along well with others by responding to others in a helpful and positive manner, including liaising with clients & artists. • Manages stress well, and exhibits excellent interpersonal skills, tact and diplomacy. • Willing to work a flexible schedule that includes some evenings, weekends, late nights and early mornings as the production schedule requires. Additional Information Position Details • This is an ongoing, full-time with a variable schedule. Flexibility is essential as shifts are scheduled 3-4 weeks ahead of time and are based on venue bookings with most shifts on weekday evenings, or on weekends. The shift length ranges between 3-14 hours. Our venues are particularly active between September and June each year. • The role is based in Kamloops, BC • Wage starts at $19.00 per hour with a scheduled increase after a 3-month probationary period. • This role’s location is subject for review entering the 2025-2026 season. • New hires are subject to the following conditions of employment: o Must be able to legally work in Canada. o Must provide a recent & clear police information check. Employer Profile Western Canada Theatre (WCT) is searching for Full-Time THEATRE TECHNICIAN to support our venue operations at the Sagebrush Theatre. Our theatre Technicians are the energy and person-power behind our productions, and fill a vital role in the creation of theatre, music & dance in Kamloops. Fulfilling many tasks to support our productions, activities & workshops, the technician may be called upon to serve in a variety of capacities, in their areas of expertise or interest. This position provides a great opportunity to build skills in all aspects of technical theatre, under experienced mentors and team leaders. Hours are dependent on the programming needs of our venues & activities, and vary seasonally, with the busiest season between September and June of each year.
